Why linen
Why people fall in love with linen
A cool, breathable bed that looks good with no fuss.
EUROPEAN FLAX® certified
100% flax grown in France. Grown without irrigation, GMO-free and traced from field to finished product.
Breathable
A looser weave lets air move freely. The most breathable fabric we sell.
Moisture-wicking
Flax pulls moisture away from your skin. You stay dry on warm nights.
Softens with every wash
A little crisp at first. Softer every time you wash it.
Built to last
Long, strong flax fibres outlast cotton.
No ironing, ever
Linen relaxes as you sleep. The creases that stay are part of the look.
GSM explained
Linen is measured by weight, not thread count
Linen is measured by weight: grams per square metre (GSM). It is cool and breathable by nature. Go heavier and you lose some of that. Go lighter and it turns see-through and wears out sooner.
Linen weights
- Under 150 GSM
- Thin and see-through. Wears out faster.
- Dozy linen Ours
- 165 GSM. Breathable, cool and built to last.
- Over 180 GSM
- Heavier and warmer. Less breathable.
Approximate weights for linen bedding.
Why linen costs more than cotton
Flax yields less fibre per field and takes more steps to turn into thread. Most linen flax grows in a narrow coastal band of Western Europe, with France the largest grower.
It costs more up front, and it lasts longer.
Shopping cotton too?
Thread count, weaves and fibre length are explained on our cotton sateen and cotton percale pages.

Questions, answered
What people ask most about our flax linen bedding.
Is linen better than cotton sheets?
It depends how you sleep. Linen is the most breathable and the longest lasting, with a relaxed texture. Cotton sateen is silky and smooth; cotton percale is cool and crisp. Both cost less.
Do I need to iron linen sheets?
No. Take it out of the dryer promptly and smooth it onto the bed. The soft creases are part of the look.
Is linen good for hot sleepers?
Yes. It's the most breathable fabric we sell, and flax wicks moisture away from your skin.
Why is linen more expensive than cotton?
Flax yields less fibre per field and takes more steps to turn into thread. It costs more up front, and it lasts longer.
What does GSM mean for linen?
Grams per square metre: the fabric's weight. Heavier linen feels warmer and breathes less. Lighter linen, under about 150 GSM, turns see-through and wears out sooner. Ours is 165 GSM: breathable, cool and built to last.
Does linen get softer?
Yes. A little crisp at first, softer with every wash.
Where does Dozy linen come from?
100% European flax grown in France. It's EUROPEAN FLAX® certified: grown without irrigation, GMO-free and traced from field to finished product.
What comes in a linen sheet set?
A flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases. Or buy a fitted sheet, duvet cover or pillowcase set on its own.
Will the fitted sheet fit my mattress?
Our fitted sheets have 17" deep pockets. They fit most mattresses, including thick and pillow-top beds.
What kind of closure does the duvet cover have?
Buttons, with corner ties inside to hold your duvet in place.
What sizes and colours does it come in?
Sheet sets and fitted sheets: Double/Full, Queen and King. Duvet covers and pillowcase sets: Queen and King. White, Sage, Ash and Sand.
How do I wash linen sheets?
Machine wash cold with mild detergent and like colours. No fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low, with wool dryer balls. New linen sheds a little lint at first, and it fades with washing.
Is your linen certified?
Yes, twice: EUROPEAN FLAX® certified, and certified to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.
How fast is shipping?

Do you put bedding on sale?
