Why linen
Why people fall for linen
Linen is for people who want a cool, breathable bed that looks good without any fuss.
EUROPEAN FLAX® certified
Ours is 100% European flax grown in France. EUROPEAN FLAX® certification means the flax is grown in Western Europe without irrigation, is GMO-free and is traced from field to finished product.
The most breathable fabric we sell
Linen's looser weave lets air move through and flax wicks moisture away, so it's the most breathable bedding we sell.
Wicks moisture
Flax fibres pull moisture away from your skin, so you stay drier on warm nights.
Softens with every wash
It can feel a little crisp at first, then gets softer each time you wash it.
Built to last
Flax fibres are long and strong, so linen sheets outlast cotton.
No ironing, ever
Linen relaxes as you sleep on it. The creases that stay are part of its easy, lived-in look, so your bed always looks good.
GSM explained
Linen is measured by weight, not thread count
Linen yarn is thicker and less even than cotton yarn, so counting threads per square inch doesn't say much. Instead, linen is described by weight: grams per square metre, or GSM.
Linen weights
- Dozy linen Ours
- 165 GSM, light and airy
- Lighter linen
- about 170 GSM, airy, suits hot sleepers
- Heavier linen
- up to about 190 GSM, more substantial and warmer
Typical ranges from the Sleep Foundation.
Why linen costs more than cotton
Flax gives less fibre per field than cotton, and turning the stalks into yarn takes more steps: the fibres are loosened from the stalk, separated and combed before they can be spun. Most of the world's linen flax grows in a narrow coastal band of Western Europe, with France the largest grower.
You pay more up front, but linen lasts longer than cotton and gets softer the more you use it.
Shopping cotton too?
Thread count, weaves and fibre length are cotton questions. Our cotton bedding page explains all three.
Compare
Cotton or linen?
Love linen's breathability but want something smoother? Cotton sateen is silky with a soft sheen, still breathable at 300 thread count in long-staple cotton, and costs less.

Questions, answered
What people ask us most about our linen bedding.
Is linen better than cotton sheets?
It depends on how you sleep. Linen is the most breathable and the longest lasting, with a relaxed, textured feel. Cotton sateen is smoother and silkier, with a soft sheen, and costs less. Hot sleepers and people who don't want to iron usually love linen. If you want a silky, hotel-smooth bed, choose cotton.
Do I need to iron linen sheets?
No. Linen relaxes as you sleep on it, and the soft creases that stay are part of its look. Take it out of the dryer promptly, smooth it onto the bed and you're done.
Is linen good for hot sleepers?
Yes. Linen has a looser weave than cotton, so air moves through it more easily, and flax fibres wick moisture away from your skin. It's the most breathable fabric we sell.
Why is linen more expensive than cotton?
Flax gives less fibre per field than cotton, and turning the stalks into yarn takes more steps: the fibres are loosened from the stalk, separated and combed before they can be spun. Most of the world's linen flax grows in a narrow coastal band of Western Europe, with France the largest grower. You pay more up front, but linen lasts longer than cotton.
What does GSM mean for linen?
GSM is grams per square metre: how much the fabric weighs. Linen is described by weight instead of thread count. Lighter linen, around 170 GSM, feels airier and suits hot sleepers; heavier linen, up to about 190 GSM, feels more substantial and warmer. Ours is 165 GSM, on the light, airy end.
Does linen get softer?
Yes. Linen can feel a little crisp at first and softens with every wash.
Where does Dozy linen come from?
Our linen is 100% European flax grown in France, and it's EUROPEAN FLAX® certified: the flax is grown in Western Europe without irrigation, is GMO-free and is traced at every step from field to finished product.
What comes in a linen sheet set?
A flat sheet, a fitted sheet and two pillowcases. You can also buy a fitted sheet, a duvet cover or a set of 2 pillowcases on its own: choose the piece at the top of this page.
Will the fitted sheet fit my mattress?
Our fitted sheets have 17" deep pockets, so they fit most mattresses, including thick and pillow-top beds.
What kind of closure does the duvet cover have?
Buttons, plus corner ties inside that hold your duvet in place.
What sizes and colours does it come in?
Sheet sets and fitted sheets come in Double/Full, Queen and King. Duvet covers and pillowcase sets come in Queen and King. Colours: White, Sage, Ash and Sand.
How do I wash linen sheets?
Machine wash cold with a mild detergent and like colours. Skip fabric softener, bleach and harsh chemicals. Tumble dry low, with wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. New linen can shed a little lint at first; that fades with washing.
Is your linen certified?
Yes, twice. It's EUROPEAN FLAX® certified, and certified to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, which means it's tested for harmful substances.
How fast is shipping?
Shipping is free across Canada and arrives in 2 to 5 days. We also keep some bedding in stock at our showroom at 290 Queen St W. Pick-up is first come, first served, so call (416) 840 0224 to check before you visit.

No. Our prices stay the same every day. The one deal we offer: 20% off sheets, duvets and pillows when you buy them with a mattress, applied automatically in your cart.
